DOUGLAS, A. and HOPE, M. 2016. Making maps and exploring territory. In Newling, J. The last islands. Banchory: Woodend Barn Publishing, pages 55-59.
This essay co-authored with Mark Hope, co-founder of the Barn, Banchory, forms a chapter in the book, The last islands published on the occasion on the opening of The Map Room of the Last Islands, new work by John Newling at Woodend Barn, Banchory, Aberdeenshire, 2015. John Newling is artist in residence at the Barn 2014-17, leading the Barn's programme in art and ecology. Newling describes his sense of the Barn: "During that time I admired the way that Woodend is, in many ways, an island where art seemed to fold itself seamlessly within the place and community. The local was crucial but was not worn with the heaviness some places gather."
